Math 

We will be working on place value, ordinal numbers, months of the year, addition and subtraction fact families, and writing numbers through 999.  Please review Math facts with your child.  They should be able to complete 100 addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts correctly in 5 minutes. 

Reading

We will be reading The Parcel Post Kid.  We will work on vocabulary, comprehension, and alphabetical order.  Please encourage your child to read their AR books.  They should be reading at least 20 minutes each night.

Language Arts

The Spelling words this week are homophones.  They have 15 words to learn.  They will need to know which homophone to use in order to have it correct.  They will need to write these words in cursive 2x each by Thursday.  The test will be Friday.

Religion

We will be reading about angels and St. Michael.  We will also begin the lesson on the creation of the universe.  We will be spending some time preparing for Mass.  We will have Mass this Thursday. 

Science

We did not get very far last week because of the heat.  We will be talking about plant and animal cells.  We will also start on classification of animals.  The zoo will be visiting our classroom 4 times this school year. 

Social Studies

We will be learning about Prehistoric people.  We will be discussing the life changes for these people before and after the Ice Age.  We do quite a bit of partner and group work in Science and Social Studies.  The groups/partners are assigned by me and usually last for the entire quarter.  If your child has a problem with his/her group or partner please let me know.

Other

All of you have sent in the back page of the information packet and I thank you for that.  Most of you have sent in your classroom fee.  If you have not please do so as soon as possible.  If this is a problem for you please contact me.  This is the last week of our magazine sale.  Please send in any orders by Friday.  School pictures are Monday, September 20^th.  We will have music on that day because of pictures.  We will have gym on Tuesday, September 21^st.
