Second Grade Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Second Grade has had a great week considering the heat. Your child has been a super trooper throughout this week. It looks like it is going to be hot again next week; so your child may bring in a water bottle.

My letter each week is filled with Second Grade happenings; please take the time to read it. A reminder for you to sign your child’s AB, behavior chart, and envelope each Thursday evening. If your child is missing an assignment for the week, it will be listed on the bottom of their letter. Also, if your child has reading homework, please sign their AB after they have read to you. This way I will be able to see that they read the story for you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

A sad note…. James Turner will not be returning to St. Joseph this year; therefore there are 26 in our class.

I have been testing your child over the past week. Included in your packet are their Star Math and Reading tests. This gives me an indication of their level for math and AR. If your child did not score up to their potential, please do not be concerned at this time. Their scores could be due to many different reasons…ie…summer break, new tests, or new computers. Each child took the test by themselves without help from Mrs. Taylor or me.

Meet the Teacher Night is next Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00pm. Each teacher will have a short presentation followed by questions by the parents. I am looking forward to seeing you that night.

Last Friday we had our Magazine Sale Assembly. This is a very important fundraiser for PTO; please do your best to support their effort. The PTO is very dedicated to the staff and children of St. Joseph School.

A big thanks to Mrs. Drake and Mrs. Biddinger for coordinating our Draw Down Basket. Thank you ahead of time for helping out with this fundraiser.

Many of the Second Graders are not putting their number, first, and last name on their papers. Beginning next week I will take tickets away for no names or numbers.

Many Second Graders are reading AR books at night and coming into school to take the test. I was very excited to see this dedication. I am trying to teach my students to look up the books they have read by the author’s last name (it is faster than typing the entire title). If they read the book at home please include the author’s last name in their AB. Thanks for your help.

I think that is all I have to share for now. I hope you enjoy your nice long weekend…I know I will.
